Metastasis remains the major cause of cancer-related mortality, and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are both candidate liquid-biopsy biomarkers and plausible intermediates of metastatic dissemination. Because CTCs are extremely rare in peripheral blood, platform comparisons have often focused solely on recovery.
